Xiaomi’s long-awaited 17 series is edging closer to its official unveiling, and the steady drip of leaks has given us a surprisingly clear picture of what to expect. Over the past weeks, multiple hands-on videos have surfaced, and the latest clip once again showcases all three upcoming models: the standard Xiaomi 17, the 17 Pro, and the flagship 17 Pro Max.
Alongside the videos, photographs of the batteries that will power these devices have also appeared, giving enthusiasts a chance to estimate real-world endurance.
The vanilla Xiaomi 17 and the 17 Pro share a 6.3-inch flat display. The difference is subtle but noticeable: both Pro models will feature a small secondary screen located on the camera island at the back. This isn’t just decorative – the teaser suggests it can handle quick functions such as notifications or even serving as a mini viewfinder. While Xiaomi has yet to confirm the main display size of the Pro Max, all three models are expected to ship with extremely thin bezels, with the Pro variants trimmed down to just 1.18mm.
Official renders released by Xiaomi highlight the Pro and Pro Max in stylish finishes – Cold Smoke Purple for the former, and Forest Green for the latter. A separate YouTube short has already circulated online, showing off the trio in multiple colorways, hinting at a wide range of design choices for fans. Xiaomi clearly wants to make the 17 series not only powerful but also visually distinct, with that rear screen acting as both a design flourish and a functional element.
Battery capacities have been a hot topic, especially as images of three labeled cells recently hit the web. The largest among them, marked BM72, carries a massive 7,500mAh typical capacity (7,300mAh rated), making it a strong candidate for the 17 Pro Max. The second unit, BM6H, holds 6,300mAh typical (6,150mAh rated) and is shaped identically to what we expect inside the 17 Pro. Notably, this pack uses the new L-shaped Jinshajiang design, optimized for rapid charging. The third, BM6N, sits in between at 6,800mAh typical (6,660mAh rated), and likely belongs to the standard Xiaomi 17.
This arrangement means that the Pro model may surprisingly ship with a smaller battery than the standard edition, a decision likely tied to the fact that ultra-fast charging solutions often trade raw capacity for safety and efficiency. Even so, the numbers put Xiaomi ahead of rivals. On a digital scale, the batteries are hefty: the BM72 tips 81.5g, making it possibly the second heaviest component in the phone after its frame. For context, these figures exceed many competitors, including rumored capacities for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro Max, and Google’s Pixel 10 XL.
The second screen has generated mixed reactions. Some see it as gimmicky, others as an elegant addition that sets the 17 Pro and Pro Max apart in a crowded market. But Xiaomi has a history of experimenting with bold designs, and early glimpses suggest that it might be more than just a novelty. If the company manages to tie the feature into everyday use cases – notifications, camera shortcuts, or even quick tools – it could be a genuine selling point.
The official launch of the Xiaomi 17 series is scheduled for Thursday, September 25 at 11AM UTC. With less than two days to go, excitement is high. Whether Xiaomi will surprise us with last-minute details, such as the exact size of the Pro Max display or software enhancements for the rear screen, remains to be seen. For now, fans can enjoy the leaks, admire the colors, and speculate about how these large batteries and sleek designs will translate into real-world performance.
