Xiaomi’s next flagship, the Xiaomi 16 Pro, is shaping up to be a bold refinement rather than just another yearly refresh. One of the biggest changes is the shift away from the quad-curved display found on the 15 Pro. Many users felt the curved glass was both fragile and awkward, so Xiaomi is reportedly going flat this year.
To keep the look sharp, the company is said to be slimming the bezels, ensuring the flat panel still feels premium and modern.
The display itself grows slightly, now expected to measure around 6.8–6.85 inches, compared to last year’s 6.73 inches. It will bring improved eye-protection features designed to reduce strain even at high brightness. Both the 16 Pro and the rumored 16 Ultra are tipped to share a 6.85-inch LTPO OLED panel with “2K+” resolution and run on Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip. Early whispers even suggest the cameras may surpass Apple’s iPhone in raw performance.
Photography is also getting attention. The selfie camera on the 16 and 16 Pro will reportedly be upgraded to a 50MP sensor with autofocus, paired with a new ultra-wide lens and support for crisp 4K video at 60fps. That’s a big leap from the 15 series’ 32MP front cameras, which lacked autofocus.
Xiaomi isn’t stopping with just one size option. Alongside the regular 16 Pro, a more compact version is rumored – the so-called 16 Pro mini. At around 6.3 inches, it’s targeted at users who prefer smaller devices but don’t want to compromise on performance. Despite its size, the mini is expected to pack the same Snapdragon Elite 2 chip and a solid 50MP 1/1.28” main sensor. Interestingly, the smaller Pro might ship with a 6,300mAh battery, slightly larger than the 6,100mAh unit inside the 15 Pro, while the larger models could climb even higher, with some leaks hinting at capacities above 7,000mAh.
With flatter screens, bigger batteries, and sharper cameras, Xiaomi’s 2025 lineup is shaping up as one of its most compelling in years. If the leaks hold true, the 16 Pro might finally strike the right balance between design flair and practical durability.
