vivo is preparing a significant design shift with the upcoming vivo X300 Pro, and this time the company is abandoning the controversial quad-curved panel found on its predecessor. Product Manager Han Boxiao revealed on Weibo that the flagship will ship with a 6.78-inch flat display, accompanied by slimmer bezels than the current generation. In fact, vivo even compared it directly to Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro Max, suggesting that it might feel more compact in the hand despite its large screen size.
The move away from curves isn’t just about looks.
Many users and reviewers have long complained about curved edges causing accidental touches, distorted images along the borders, and challenges with applying screen protectors. A flat display, by contrast, offers more usable screen real estate, easier accessory compatibility, and improved durability. According to industry chatter, flat panels can also be up to 40% cheaper to produce, potentially making repairs and replacements less painful for consumers.
Beyond ergonomics, Boxiao emphasized that the X300 Pro will be slimmer, lighter, and more comfortable to hold compared to the X200 Pro. For many buyers still holding onto older flagships like the Galaxy S10, this balance of large display and compact footprint could be the sweet spot they’ve been waiting for.
Community reactions highlight how divisive curved displays have always been. Some fans love the futuristic aesthetics, but many admit they are little more than a gimmick. One user explained that curved panels often clip parts of photos, make reading edge text difficult, and generally waste usable space. Others applauded vivo for finally listening to practical concerns, pointing out that flat screens are more resilient against cracks and cost far less to protect with tempered glass.
Of course, hardware alone won’t satisfy everyone. A vocal part of the tech community insists that software is now as important as design. vivo’s OriginOS has its fans, but skeptics argue that Chinese skins still lag behind Samsung’s One UI, Google’s Pixel interface, or even Apple’s iOS in terms of polish and stability. Nonetheless, those already using vivo devices counter that OriginOS has matured into a smooth, customizable, and unique platform in its own right.
The vivo X300 and X300 Pro are expected to debut in China next month, with global rollout details yet to be announced. If vivo manages to deliver a combination of refined ergonomics, strong display technology, and competitive software improvements, the X300 Pro could be one of the most compelling Android flagships of the season.

Good design choice, now just launch the Ultra globally too please
Bro, flat display means cheaper screen protectors and less cracks when it drops. Win for us clumsy ppl 😂
Curves always annoyed me, edges clipping pics and random touches… gimmick over substance
Flat screens are like 30-40% cheaper to fix, that alone makes me happy
