Ubisoft and FX Are Making a Far Cry Anthology TV Series

Ubisoft is officially teaming up with FX to bring the Far Cry universe to television-although the announcement wasn’t exactly planned.

The reveal slipped out early on Ubisoft’s website before being pulled, but not before Reddit users and the rest of the internet grabbed the details.

Unlike Ubisoft’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed series on Netflix, this Far Cry project will be an anthology series. Each season will introduce a brand-new setting, cast, and storyline-echoing the games’ standalone narrative style. In other words, don’t expect a direct retelling of past Far Cry plots or iconic villains like Vaas-though fans might catch some clever Easter eggs.

The creative force behind the series is equally intriguing. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star and co-creator Rob McElhenney will both star (at least in Season 1) and serve as executive producer. Noah Hawley, the mastermind behind FX’s award-winning Fargo and the upcoming Alien: Earth series, will take on showrunning duties. They’re joined by Jackie Cohn of More Better Productions, Michael Garcia of 26Keys Productions, Nick Frenkel of 3Arts Entertainment, and Ubisoft’s own Gerad Guillemot, Margret Boykin, and Austin Dill.

Boykin, who heads Ubisoft’s film and television division, described the partnership as “an embarrassment of riches,” saying that Far Cry’s “psychological tailspin” fits perfectly with FX’s fearless approach to storytelling.

With Hawley’s knack for complex, darkly funny narratives and McElhenney’s offbeat energy, this could be a bold and unpredictable take on the franchise. Whether it wins over skeptics who feel Far Cry’s stories have always been its weakest link remains to be seen-but the mix of talent and format hints that this might be more than just another game-to-screen experiment.
