Ubisoft has officially confirmed that Rayman, the limbless hero who first appeared on our screens back in 1995, is preparing for a long-awaited comeback.
As part of the character’s 30th anniversary celebrations, the publisher announced that its Milan studio – already rumored to be handling a new Rayman project – will be joining forces with Ubisoft Montpellier, the birthplace of the franchise, to shape the future of the series.
The announcement came through Loic Gounon, Brand Producer for Rayman, who shared a heartfelt message reflecting on his two decades with Ubisoft and his long involvement in the franchise, from Rayman Raving Rabbids to the much-loved Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends. He emphasized that Rayman’s global adventures were only possible thanks to Ubisoft’s various studios across Europe, and most importantly, thanks to the fans who have kept the character alive for thirty years.
To celebrate the milestone, Ubisoft will roll out months of special content, including behind-the-scenes anecdotes, interviews with developers, never-before-seen concept art, and retrospectives on past games. The aim is not only to honor Rayman’s past but also to remind fans of the quirky magic that made him such a standout in platforming history. Few franchises have maintained their charm across decades, but Rayman has consistently been a symbol of colorful creativity in gaming.
As for what comes next, the company is being deliberately cautious. Gounon warned fans not to expect quick updates, noting that major game development today can take years. Still, Ubisoft reassured players that the collaboration between Milan and Montpellier means Rayman is in experienced, passionate hands. Patience will be key, but the developers want to ensure the character returns with the polish and creativity he deserves.
There’s also been speculation about the project’s exact nature. A report from Insider Gaming last October hinted that the next Rayman might not be a brand-new chapter, but instead a remake of a classic entry. Tom Henderson, known for accurate Ubisoft leaks, suggested this could be the direction, fueling hopes of a modern reimagining of one of the franchise’s legendary titles. Whether it’s a fresh story or a revival of past magic, the combination of Milan’s energy and Montpellier’s legacy hints at something special.
For now, the takeaway is simple: Rayman’s story isn’t over. He’s gearing up for a return worthy of his history, and though the wait may feel long, fans can look forward to both nostalgic celebrations and the promise of new adventures on the horizon.
