Ubisoft’s Latest Moves: The Division 2 Expands with ‘Survivors’ and New Mobile MMO
At Gamescom 2025, Ubisoft dropped some huge news for The Division 2 fans. The studio has revealed two major updates: one for console players and another for mobile enthusiasts. First up, The Division 2: Survivors, a new survival extraction experience set to launch in 2026, promises an exciting twist on the franchise’s formula. While still in its early development stages, creative director Magnus Jansén, who’s been part of the series since the beginning, assures that the project will involve fans every step of the way.
According to executive producer Julian Gerighty, the team is committed to transparency and open communication. They’re planning to keep players updated regularly as development moves forward. Interestingly, Gerighty is also working on The Division 3, which remains a mystery for now – no footage or solid details have surfaced since its announcement in 2023.
Though details on Survivors remain scarce, Ubisoft has already teased some concept art, giving fans a glimpse of the new direction. The roadmap for The Division series was also revealed but notably lacks any mention of The Division 3, which raises some eyebrows.
On the mobile side, Ubisoft has also announced The Division Resurgence, a free-to-play MMO set to bring the franchise to smartphones. This game will deliver a gameplay experience similar to its console counterparts but optimized for mobile. Set a few months after the events of the original Division game, it will fill in some narrative gaps between The Division 1 and 2, offering additional story content over time. While the game is exclusive to mobile devices, The Division’s passionate fanbase might still want to check it out, especially if they’re interested in the lore.
If you’re eager to play, registration is open now, and players can even participate in a closed beta test. For those who prefer to just watch the story unfold, a recap on YouTube might be enough. This announcement follows the launch of The Battle for Brooklyn earlier this year, and the next major update for The Division 2, Year 7’s Season 2 titled ‘The Pact,’ is set to launch on September 9.
