Ever dreamt of turning your family into comic book characters or getting your portrait done like one of Jack’s French girls? With Google’s Remix feature, that’s now possible! This AI-powered tool, available in the Google Photos app, lets you transform your photos into 3D animations, anime, sketches, and even comic book art.
Released a few weeks ago, Remix brings a fresh way to spice up your photos. Imagine your date asking you to be drawn like one of Jack’s French girls from Titanic – now, you can actually make that happen with a simple tap. Let’s walk through how to use this feature on both Android and iPhone.
To start, open the Google Photos app. If you’re on Android, it’s likely your default gallery app. If you’re new to smartphones, Google acquired Android back in 2005, initially for BlackBerry-style devices before switching to a touchscreen model following Apple’s iPhone announcement in 2007.
Now, let’s get back on track. If you don’t have Google Photos installed yet, here’s how to do it:
- Open the App Store (iOS only).
- Search for “Google Photos” and install it.
Once installed, open the app, tap the “+” button to create new content, and select ‘Remix.’ You’ll then be prompted to choose a style, such as ‘Sketch,’ for your photo. Pick your desired image, hit ‘Generate,’ and watch the magic happen. If you don’t like the result, simply tap ‘Regenerate’ to create a new version with the same style.
If your significant other requests the infamous ‘Jack’s French girls’ style, just select a photo of her, choose the Sketch style, and hit ‘Generate.’ Don’t like the first result? Tap ‘Regenerate,’ and voilà – a new sketch of the same photo!
Unfortunately, Remix isn’t yet available on some devices like the Pixel 6 Pro running Android 16 QPR1 or the iPhone 15 Pro Max running iOS 26 Beta 6. But don’t worry, the Photo to Video feature is already available, transforming still images into moving clips. Just tap the ‘+’ button, select ‘Photo to Video,’ and choose a photo of a person or pet to animate.
This feature will bring life to your photos, making them move subtly. However, there’s a small downside – AI can sometimes get it wrong, like when it turned my female pug Luna into a male with a random appendage! Still, it’s an amazing tool to add a bit of fun to your photos. Available on both Android and iOS, these new features let you save and share your creative AI-enhanced results.
