The Witcher Reaches Outer Space with the European Space Agency

CD Projekt RED has once again proved that The Witcher franchise knows no boundaries – not even Earth’s atmosphere. In a remarkable collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), Polish astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski brought two iconic Witcher medallions to the International Space Station (ISS) during his July mission. These weren’t just souvenirs – they symbolized the fusion of human imagination, Polish creativity, and the universal reach of storytelling.

The medallions – the Wolf emblem worn by Geralt of Rivia and the Lynx medallion representing Ciri in the upcoming The Witcher 4 – have long been central to the identity of the Witcher universe.

Now, captured in orbit against the black expanse of space, they have become literal symbols of a fantasy world transcending its fictional origins. CD Projekt RED proudly announced this achievement on their blog, calling it a milestone that reflects how far the franchise – and the Polish game industry – has come.

“We’ve come a long way over the years, but seeing our Witcher medallions reach outer space is something else,” said CD Projekt RED joint CEO Michał Nowakowski. “It’s an honor and a statement that Polish creativity and ambition can, quite literally, reach the stars.”

Uznański-Wiśniewski’s space mission wasn’t about entertainment, yet his gesture carried deep cultural resonance. Though no gaming console accompanied him aboard the ISS, the medallions’ presence held more weight than a gaming session ever could. “No matter where I trained,” he said, “people already knew Poland because of The Witcher. As the medallions drifted in orbit, I saw more than symbols – I saw imagination made real.”

For CD Projekt RED, this collaboration symbolizes a new chapter in how video games are perceived: not just as entertainment, but as cultural exports representing national pride and artistic achievement. The Witcher, born from Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels and immortalized through gaming, has now quite literally crossed the last frontier. It’s a poetic moment – one where a story about destiny, courage, and exploration touches the stars themselves. And while players await The Witcher 4, this cosmic journey reminds everyone that legends, like rockets, can defy gravity.

In the end, it’s hard not to smile at the sheer audacity and beauty of it: a fantasy born in Polish literature, forged in video game artistry, and now floating in orbit above the Earth. The Witcher has gone cosmic – and it’s never looked more mythical.
