Bethesda has marked the second anniversary of Starfield with a message that feels less like a simple thank you note and more like a carefully crafted tease. While the studio already delivered its first major expansion, Shattered Space, last year, fans have been waiting impatiently for word on what comes next.
Rumors have floated that the next story DLC wouldn’t surface until 2026, but Bethesda’s new post suggests that the wait might not be as long as once feared.
The celebratory message, shared on the official X account, reads: “Celebrating two incredible years in the Starfield. Thank you to everyone who has explored the Settled Systems with us. We look forward to the adventures yet to come.” That closing line instantly set the fanbase buzzing. Alongside the text came a video montage that, for those paying close attention, included what appears to be the logo for a second expansion. Online sleuths quickly paused and dissected the footage, with Reddit threads filling up with theories. The consensus guess? The expansion will be titled Terran Armada, hinting at a potentially massive conflict involving Earth’s legacy and its fleets.
Adding more fuel to speculation, Bethesda’s own Tim Lamb, lead creative producer, recently gave an interview where he promised “cool stuff coming,” including both free updates and a new story DLC. Lamb hinted that part of the development team has been refining space gameplay itself, suggesting travel and encounters among the stars will feel richer and more rewarding. That detail is crucial, as one of the ongoing critiques from players has been the emptiness of the cosmos between planets. If the new expansion delivers deeper space systems alongside narrative content, it could address one of the game’s biggest weaknesses.
Fans are already divided. Some remain skeptical, labeling Starfield as lifeless and beyond saving. Others hold out hope, pointing out that Shattered Space brought meaningful improvements and that Bethesda has a history of long-tail support. If Terran Armada does launch in 2025, it may arrive at the perfect moment to re-energize a community that has drifted but still yearns for the space RPG Bethesda once promised.
