Sony State of Play Rumored for September 2025

Sony looks set to continue its late-summer tradition with another State of Play in September 2025. For the past six years, the company has dropped either a State of Play or a bigger Showcase during September, and industry insider Jeff Grubb believes this year won’t be an exception.

Speaking on Giant Bomb’s Game Mess Mornings, Grubb said he feels confident that Sony will hold an event “before the end of September.”

While details remain scarce, this timing makes sense. Following Gamescom ONL, September provides the perfect stage for PlayStation to highlight what players can expect in the final stretch of 2025. Right now, beyond Ghost of Yotei, Sony’s lineup looks fairly mysterious. Fans are hoping this upcoming broadcast will finally shed light on what’s next – especially after the June State of Play focused heavily on third-party titles and projects slated for 2026.

Whether Sony opts for a standard State of Play or upgrades to a full Showcase, expectations are high. Many players feel that after months of vague updates and long-distance teases, PlayStation needs to deliver concrete news about its upcoming slate of exclusives, first-party projects, and live-service experiments like Fairgames or Concord.

For now, it’s still officially a rumor. But if Sony wants to keep the streak alive, late September 2025 looks like a safe bet for the next big PlayStation update.
