Shenmue 3 Enhanced is officially on its way, bringing a refreshed take on the cult classic to modern hardware.

Originally launched in 2019, the game is being reintroduced with visual and gameplay upgrades, and for the first time ever, the Shenmue series will make its debut on a Nintendo console.

The enhanced edition will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, while Nintendo’s platform has yet to be confirmed – whether it’s Switch, Switch 2, or both. Publishing duties are handled by ININ Games, which acquired the rights late last year, replacing the original publisher Deep Silver.

Current owners on PlayStation 4 and PC will be able to upgrade to the new edition, though it remains unclear if this will be free or a paid upgrade. What is certain is that the update comes with a broad range of improvements: revamped 4K textures, faster loading, DLSS and FSR support, and smoother performance across the board.

Gameplay adjustments are also in the mix. Expect denser crowds in Niaowu, a nostalgic ‘classic camera’ option, and more forgiving systems like better stamina recovery, automatic health restoration between fights, and reduced financial hurdles. You’ll also be able to skip NPC chatter and cutscenes to dive straight back into the action. For purists, all these changes are optional and can be toggled off in the menu.

While no firm release date has been confirmed, with Gamescom 2025 about to kick off, fans may not have to wait long before a launch window is revealed. Shenmue’s next chapter isn’t a new story, but it promises to make the series’ most recent entry feel sharper, faster, and more accessible than ever.
