Hellblade II PS5 Pro Update Brings PSSR, 60FPS Mode, and Enhanced Features

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II is about to make a splash on PlayStation, and Ninja Theory didn’t just settle for a straight port. According to Technical Director Gavin Costello, bringing the game to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro was more about upgrading the tech than simply moving the code.

The team leveraged Epic’s strong platform integration to get the game up and running from start to finish on Sony’s hardware with minimal hassle.

From there, the developers went a step further: they backported features from newer versions of Unreal Engine 5 into the older engine build used for Hellblade II. This allowed the PS5 Pro version to tap into exclusive features like PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) and variable rate shading, pushing both performance and visual fidelity.

The timing of the PS5 launch is no coincidence. It arrives alongside a major update for the Xbox Series version, introducing a long-awaited 60 FPS Performance Mode on Xbox Series X. These engine enhancements appear to have made the higher frame rate possible. PC players aren’t left out either-the update adds a Very High preset for even sharper visuals, Steam Deck verification with optimizations for smooth play, plus a new gameplay mode and other improvements.

With the Enhanced update rolling out tomorrow, August 12, Hellblade II will now be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5-offering the best version yet, no matter where you play. But for PS5 Pro owners, those exclusive upgrades could make this the definitive console experience.
