Samsung’s popular digital art platform, PENUP, has just received a significant update that not only refreshes its creative toolkit but also paves the way for its future on the latest Galaxy devices. With the imminent rollout of One UI 8.0 – Samsung’s custom interface built on top of Android 16 – the company is making sure its own apps are optimized and ready for the transition.
PENUP, which has long been the go-to drawing and coloring app for S Pen enthusiasts, now works seamlessly with the new software while introducing an improved brush tool designed to deliver smoother, more natural strokes for digital artists.
The latest release weighs in at 129.7MB and upgrades PENUP to version 3.9.21.14. According to the official changelog, the app gains compatibility with One UI 8.0 and integrates a redesigned brush feature, expanding the creative possibilities for users who rely on precision drawing. While the stable version of One UI 8 is still limited to S Pen-equipped devices – such as the Galaxy Tab S11 and Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra – this update signals Samsung’s readiness to push the broader One UI 8 rollout across its device ecosystem.
The company is clearly laying the groundwork for its next flagship cycle. Devices like the upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra, along with the Galaxy Tab S10 and Tab S10 Ultra, are expected to ship with One UI 8 support out of the box. Meanwhile, Samsung has confirmed that the stable One UI 8 update will start arriving on existing models this month. Priority devices include the Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy S24 lineup, Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Flip 6, Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Fold 6, as well as the Galaxy Tab S10 family. After these initial waves, additional Galaxy models will gradually receive the update in subsequent months, ensuring widespread coverage across Samsung’s portfolio.
For creative users, the PENUP update is more than just a routine compatibility patch. The introduction of the new brush tool enhances the expressive capabilities of digital sketching, whether it’s for professional artwork, quick doodles, or collaborative coloring activities within the app’s community. By refining PENUP ahead of the One UI 8 release, Samsung is reinforcing its commitment to artists and note-takers who rely on the S Pen as an essential productivity and creativity accessory. In short, this move highlights the company’s dual focus on technical readiness and user experience, ensuring that Galaxy owners can take full advantage of One UI 8’s performance improvements without sacrificing their favorite creative tools.
