Samsung is preparing to unveil what could be its most ambitious mobile device yet – a tri-fold Galaxy smartphone – and the reveal might be just days away. According to a new report from The Korea Herald, the company plans to showcase the groundbreaking phone during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2025 summit, held in Gyeongju, South Korea, from October 31 to November 1.
The move would mark the first public debut of a tri-folding smartphone from a major manufacturer, signaling the next stage of foldable innovation after years of experimentation with dual-fold designs.
While Samsung has confirmed a tri-fold is coming this year, it has yet to lock in a final product name. Industry insiders are debating whether the company will market it as the Galaxy G Fold or the Galaxy Z TriFold, both aligning with its existing foldable branding. Early production will reportedly be limited, with estimates suggesting only 50,000 to 200,000 units will be made initially. This small batch reflects both the complexity of its engineering and Samsung’s cautious approach to gauging consumer demand for such a premium device.
That premium label is well-earned – the tri-fold is rumored to cost around $2,800, a full $1,000 more than the Galaxy Z Fold7’s debut price. The higher cost likely comes from its intricate multi-hinge mechanism, specialized display layers, and ultra-slim flexible glass required to support three panels folding in multiple directions. The phone is expected to launch only in select markets, including South Korea, China, the United States, and the UAE.
Speculation around hardware suggests the device may house a roughly 4,700mAh battery, which might struggle to deliver all-day power given the expansive screen real estate. Some industry watchers also note the absence of silicon carbide (SiC) components could limit efficiency gains. Still, for enthusiasts and early adopters, this is less about practicality and more about being part of the next leap in mobile design – the moment when Samsung reclaims its place as the undisputed king of foldable innovation.
