Samsung Galaxy M55 and M55s receive Android 16-based One UI 8 stable update

Galaxy M55 and M55s get One UI 8 stable: what’s new, who gets it first, and what to prepare

Samsung has begun rolling out the Android 16-based One UI 8 stable update to two mid-rangers that sold in big numbers this year: the Galaxy M55 and the Galaxy M55s. The M55 is receiving build M556BXXU4CYJ4 with an over-the-air package of a little more than 2.6GB, while the M55s gets M558BXXU2CYJ4, weighing in at just over 2.5GB. Both updates include the October 2025 Android security patch and Samsung’s usual performance, reliability, and camera-tuning improvements.

Availability and how to check

The rollout starts in India and, as usual, will expand gradually in waves. If your phone hasn’t pinged you yet, head to Settings → Software update → Download and install to check manually. Staged releases mean it can take a few days before every device/IMEI is greenlit, even within the same region or carrier.

What to expect from One UI 8 on M55/M55s

While Samsung’s region-specific changelog varies, One UI 8 focuses on polish: smoother animations, better resource scheduling, stability fixes, and updated first-party apps. The security patch tightens vulnerabilities, and background process behavior is refined to reduce random app closures.

Community feedback gives helpful context. An M55s owner who bought the 256GB model in the UAE noted that One UI 6 ran hot, frequently throttled the CPU, and drained battery under pressure, with occasional camera crashes and underwhelming image quality. After moving to One UI 7, heat was notably tamed and the camera – especially 50MP front video – improved a lot; the same user felt that earlier the cheaper M35 shot more reliable photos in India, but the gap closed post-update. With One UI 8 now landing, expect further tuning on thermals, stability, and imaging pipelines – particularly in low light and repeated quick-capture scenarios – though exact gains will depend on your usage and region’s build notes.

Prep before you update

  • Backup your photos and chats (local or cloud).
  • Keep at least several gigabytes of free storage for the installer and post-update optimization.
  • Charge to 50%+ and use Wi-Fi for the large download.
  • After updating, give the phone time to reindex and optimize; minor heat during this phase is normal.

Pricing snapshot (for context)

Street prices vary by region and storage: we’ve seen India listings around ₹18,620 for 128GB/8GB and about ₹22,999 for 256GB/8GB on the M55s, while recent European M55 offers hovered roughly between €245–€270 depending on configuration. These are indicative and change quickly.

Bottom line

If you own a Galaxy M55 or M55s, One UI 8 is a meaningful platform jump with the latest security patch and broad refinements. Check manually if the OTA hasn’t arrived and, once you’re on the new build, monitor thermals and camera behavior – early user reports suggest Samsung’s mid-range tuning has been trending in the right direction since One UI 7.

Battery drain was rough on UI6 during maps + camera. UI7 fixed most of it for me; hoping UI8 kills the last random jitters
