The Samsung Galaxy A17 5G has arrived, following in the footsteps of the hugely popular Galaxy A16. With a price tag of €230, it’s set to compete in one of the most crowded smartphone segments in the EU market.
While it’s already listed for sale, you might have a hard time finding it in physical stores just yet.
On the surface, not much seems to have changed. The A17 5G still sports a 6.7-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, but this year it’s topped with Gorilla Glass Victus for added durability. The triple camera system returns, though the main shooter now has optical image stabilization – a welcome addition for sharper shots. The black variant, with its matte finish and subtle light reflections, looks particularly sleek, and the white accent around the camera island adds a nice touch.
Under the hood, the phone runs on Samsung’s 5nm Exynos 1330 chipset, depending on the region. Some Galaxy A16 5G units shipped with the same chip, while others came with the 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 6300. That’s where controversy starts – many buyers fear the Dimensity version will lag behind competitors like the Poco X7 or certain Motorola models, especially in performance-heavy tasks.
While the A17 5G isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel, its build quality, OIS camera upgrade, and durable glass may sway those who value design and brand reliability over raw specs. However, in a market where €230 can buy you faster processors and more advanced features, Samsung’s latest entry will have to prove it can justify its price in our upcoming full review.
