chip operations, fueled by major new deals with Tesla and Apple and a renewed push to expand advanced semiconductor manufacturing in America. The South Korean tech giant, which played a key role in recent U.S.–South Korea trade negotiations, is doubling down on its American presence after a period of sluggish momentum in its chip division.

The company’s state-of-the-art Taylor, Texas facility-long in the works since CHIPS Act incentives began-will finally open its doors at the end of October. Previously, Samsung’s U.S. investment fell to $37 billion last year amid a slowdown in chip demand. However, recent policy moves aimed at bolstering domestic chip production, along with strategic partnerships, have reignited the company’s ambitions.

At the heart of the expansion is Samsung’s plan to build cutting-edge 2nm production lines and a specialized advanced packaging plant. These projects not only strengthen its competitive position against TSMC but also provide U.S. tech firms with vital dual-sourcing options to mitigate supply chain risks.

The surge in investment comes on the back of high-profile collaborations. Samsung will produce Tesla’s next-generation AI6 chips using its 2nm process and has secured a deal to manufacture Apple’s image sensors in Texas. These contracts not only deepen ties with U.S. industry leaders but also help Samsung sidestep costly chip tariffs.

With its October production launch, Samsung aims to become the second-largest chipmaker in the U.S. market, leveraging the current semiconductor boom to offset foundry losses and solidify its role as a key player in America’s tech infrastructure.
