Every August, Monterey Car Week turns the California coast into a playground for speed, style, and extravagance.
This year, amid the roar of hypercars and the glint of concours d’elegance, Roger Dubuis unveiled one of its boldest creations yet – the Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph in Pink Gold.
This limited-edition timepiece is the brand’s most luxurious take on its already aggressive, automotive-inspired chronograph. Measuring a muscular 45mm across and 17.1mm thick, the watch sports Roger Dubuis’s signature three-lug case, now reimagined in high-impact pink gold with DLC-coated titanium accents. The skeletonized structure – from lugs to pushers – forms a dramatic latticework that’s easier to appreciate thanks to the warm gold finish. The brushed gold bezel, with its crenellated edges and black-filled numerals, practically glows under the light.
Flip it over, and a sapphire display caseback reveals the in-house RD780SQ movement – a flyback chronograph with a 71-hour power reserve, vertical clutch, innovative braking system, and Geneva Seal finishing. The rotor echoes a racing wheel motif, underscoring the Lamborghini partnership. On the dial side, pink-gold bridges frame the skeletonized elements: twin mainspring barrels at 12, a rotating chronograph minutes counter at 3, a skeleton date and column wheel at 6, and a tilted 12-degree balance wheel at 9 for tourbillon-like stability
. The contrast of gold against black makes the complex design surprisingly legible, while still screaming high-octane drama.
The watch comes on a sculpted black rubber strap with a recessed triangular texture, perfectly integrating with the case. It’s rated for 100 meters of water resistance – not that many owners will take it swimming.
Priced at $135,000 USD and limited to just 88 pieces, this is a watch for those who live large, drive fast, and like their wrists to be as much a talking point as their cars. It may not be the subtle choice, but at Monterey Car Week, subtlety isn’t part of the game.
