Resident Evil Requiem Rumors Tease Open-Level Raccoon City and Leon Combat Upgrades

Resident Evil Requiem is set to make its first public appearance at Gamescom 2025 next week, and fresh rumors are only intensifying the anticipation. Insider Dusk Golem revealed that while the game has moved away from its early open-world vision, it still features expansive open-level areas, including Raccoon City, where players can navigate using a vehicle.

CAPCOM has reportedly invested significant effort into optimizing these environments for smooth performance, especially after the performance hiccups seen in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Combat sections involving Leon Kennedy have been refined with influences from The Last of Us Part II, bringing more fluid and cinematic encounters. Officially, CAPCOM has confirmed several ambitious features, including seamless switching between first- and third-person perspectives-requiring substantial redesign work-alongside a new lighting and shadow engine, the hair technology from Pragmata, and an adaptive AI system for the game’s stalker enemy that responds intelligently in real time.

Additional gameplay innovations include enhanced environmental physics and interactivity during protagonist Grace Ashcroft’s segments. Grace, an FBI technical analyst, is investigating a string of mysterious deaths at Raccoon City’s hotel-the same place where her mother died eight years ago. While Grace is the only officially announced playable character, series tradition suggests other protagonists, such as Leon, could appear later.

Resident Evil Requiem will launch on February 27, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. CAPCOM promises there’s much more to reveal before release, keeping fans guessing-and speculating-until then.
