Sony has officially unveiled the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog lineup for September 2025, and it’s a month that mixes blockbuster sports, Japanese strategy, survival grit, and even a nostalgic return to one of gaming’s most cult-loved vampire sagas.

Available starting September 16, the catalog promises something for nearly every kind of player, though reactions have already been divided.

Headlining the additions is WWE 2K25, the wrestling simulation that hit shelves earlier this year. Critics praised its refreshed visuals, improved gameplay mechanics, and deeper roster options. For fans of virtual ring action, its arrival on PS Plus is a welcome bonus. Alongside it comes Persona 5 Tactica, a tactical spin-off from Atlus’ beloved Persona franchise. This grid-based strategy game successfully captures the charm of the Phantom Thieves while experimenting with fresh mechanics that have earned it solid reviews.

Another intriguing entry is Fate/Samurai Remnant, which may be less familiar to casual players but has sparked curiosity among those who enjoy action RPGs rooted in Japanese lore. Add to that Green Hell, the brutal survival sim set in the Amazon rainforest, and you have a mix of genres that ensures variety, even if not every title will appeal to everyone.

The biggest nostalgic pull, however, comes from the announcement that Legacy of Kain: Defiance is joining the PlayStation Plus Premium library. Originally released in 2003, this PS2-era classic was the final installment in the Legacy of Kain series, directed by Amy Hennig before her career at Naughty Dog with Uncharted. Its arrival marks the first time the game has been officially playable on modern PlayStation consoles, giving new players a chance to experience a dark, atmospheric series that still holds a special place in gaming history. While some fans remain critical of Defiance as the “conclusion” to the saga, its inclusion shows Sony’s continued interest in preserving legacy titles within Premium.

It’s not a flawless lineup – some gamers see it as underwhelming compared to past months – but between the wrestling spectacle, the tactical Phantom Thieves adventure, and a surprise blast from the vampire past, September’s catalog makes for an eclectic mix worth exploring.
