Google has officially taken the wraps off its new Pixel Watch 4, launching alongside the Pixel 10 lineup.
The question on many buyers’ minds is simple: just how durable is this smartwatch?
The Pixel Watch 4 comes in two sizes – 41mm and 45mm – both promising longer battery life, improved health tracking, and refined design. But its durability specs are what stand out: an IP68 rating and 5 ATM water resistance. That combination makes it resistant to dust, splashes, rain, and even short swims.
Here’s what that means in practice: IP68 protects against dust and brief submersion in freshwater, while 5 ATM means it can handle water pressure up to 50 meters deep, suitable for swimming or showering. However, this doesn’t mean it’s fully waterproof or indestructible. Google is clear that the watch is not drop-proof, and wear-and-tear, repairs, or exposure to saltwater can reduce its resistance over time.
In other words, the Pixel Watch 4 is fine for everyday exposure – pools, rain, washing your hands – but not built for diving, high-speed water sports, or ocean swimming. Saltwater in particular can corrode seals and charging contacts. Even the straps matter, as some bands aren’t designed to get wet.
If you want your Pixel Watch 4 to last, treat it with care: avoid extreme water pressure, steer clear of saltwater, and remember resistance can degrade over the years. Handled wisely, the Pixel Watch 4 is rugged enough for daily life without being pushed beyond its limits.
