OnePlus has officially introduced OxygenOS 16, a major software milestone that brings an even deeper integration of artificial intelligence and a host of refinements designed to make the user experience more fluid, personal, and connected. Built on Android 16, the new update positions OnePlus at the forefront of AI-driven mobile software, offering smarter tools that work across creativity, communication, and device interoperability.
The updated Mind Space app now integrates directly with Google Gemini, allowing users to search through their notes, plans, or collections using natural language.
Gemini can also generate personalized itineraries, organize digital content, or even suggest creative ideas. Mind Space also gains voice note recording and smart collections, letting users sort thoughts and inspirations more intuitively. These upgrades turn the feature from a basic note hub into a genuine AI productivity assistant.
Another highlight is the new AI Writer, which offers professional-grade assistance in composing or refining text in nearly any app. Whether crafting a message, editing an email, or generating an article draft, the AI Writer adapts to the user’s tone and context. Meanwhile, the AI Recorder not only captures conversations or meetings but can also automatically transcribe and distinguish speakers, a function often reserved for advanced transcription tools. These additions showcase OnePlus’s push to make its AI genuinely useful in everyday life rather than just flashy.
The Gallery app also benefits from AI. It can subtly enhance lighting on faces, correct closed eyes by referencing older photos, and even tweak expressions for more natural results. For users who love photography but hate imperfect moments, this is a small but delightful upgrade.
Beyond AI, OxygenOS 16 focuses heavily on improving system fluidity. The enhanced Parallel Processing system now applies to more layers of the interface, reducing lag and ensuring a smoother multitasking experience. Customization fans will enjoy the expanded lockscreen options – from new clock styles and widgets to live photos and videos – plus homescreen icon resizing and shortcuts that make app access faster and more functional.
Connectivity takes a leap forward too. OnePlus devices can now share data seamlessly across phones and tablets and even interact directly with Mac and PC systems. A surprise addition is partial support for Apple Watch integration, letting users view notifications, answer messages, or check calls directly from Apple’s wearable.
Tablet users haven’t been forgotten either. The update brings enhanced multitasking and UI consistency, ensuring that the same customization and performance gains arrive on the larger screen. OnePlus is also expanding its Beta Program for those eager to test new features before the stable rollout, a sign that the company continues to value community feedback.
While some users express frustration over the lack of a desktop mode or wish that AI would take a backseat, OxygenOS 16 clearly signals OnePlus’s long-term strategy: merging efficiency with intelligence to redefine how Android feels on a flagship phone. It’s not just an update – it’s a statement about where mobile software is headed next.
