Oppo has quietly expanded its budget-friendly lineup in Southeast Asia with the official launch of the Oppo A5i Pro 5G in Malaysia. This release is notable because, until now, the A5i and A5i Pro were only offered in 4G versions when they debuted in the Philippines back in June. 
The new Pro 5G variant steps up the game by introducing 5G connectivity while retaining Oppo’s focus on endurance, affordability, and durability.
The phone is equipped with a large 6.67-inch LCD display, offering a resolution of 720×1604 pixels. While not the sharpest in its class, the panel compensates with a smooth 120 Hz refresh rate, making everyday scrolling and gaming feel responsive. It also reaches a respectable 1,000 nits of peak brightness, ensuring better outdoor visibility. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i, giving it an extra layer of toughness against scratches and minor impacts.
At the heart of the device is MediaTek’s Dimensity 6300 chipset, designed for mid-range 5G performance. This is paired with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage, offering enough room and speed for most users without pushing the price too high. Powering all of this is a massive 6,000 mAh battery that supports 45W fast wired charging. Oppo claims this battery isn’t just big but also built for the long haul, promising to maintain 80% of its capacity even after five years of regular use.
For photography, the Oppo A5i Pro 5G sports a dual camera setup at the back, with a 50 MP main shooter complemented by a 2 MP monochrome sensor for depth. On the front, there’s an 8 MP selfie camera tucked neatly in a punch-hole cutout. The phone doesn’t abandon legacy features either – it keeps the classic 3.5mm headphone jack, a rarity in modern mid-range smartphones.
Design-wise, the device is slim at 7.99 mm, measuring 165.71 x 76.24 mm overall, and weighs just 194g despite its large battery. Oppo has also given attention to durability: the phone comes with IP65 certification for dust and splash resistance and has passed MIL-STD-810H tests for shock protection, appealing to those who want extra reliability. Customers can choose between two finishes, Breeze Blue and Midnight Purple, both of which give the phone a sleek and youthful look.
In Malaysia, the Oppo A5i Pro 5G is priced at MYR 799, which roughly converts to around $188, placing it in a highly competitive budget 5G category. As a launch promotion, buyers who order through the Oppo online store before September 16 will also receive a free one-year extended warranty, adding even more value to the purchase.
Overall, the Oppo A5i Pro 5G doesn’t attempt to outshine flagship devices, but it delivers where it matters most for the price point: big battery life, reliable 5G, solid durability certifications, and essential everyday performance.
