The upcoming OnePlus 15 is shaping up to be a major departure from its predecessor, ditching the familiar circular camera island for a sleek, left-aligned rectangular module. But the real head-turner might be its new color option – an ultra-deep SuperBlack finish that insiders describe as the blackest black ever seen on a smartphone, so dark it could be mistaken for a miniature black hole.
Those who’ve glimpsed early prototypes claim it looks even better in person, with a finish reminiscent of advanced superblack materials like Vantablack or MIT’s record-breaking light-absorbing coatings.
The OnePlus 15 will feature a 6.78-inch display with a 1.5K resolution, slightly down from past models but paired with a potentially higher refresh rate and ultra-thin, perfectly symmetrical bezels that put even the OnePlus 13 to shame. OnePlus promises upgraded multi-function buttons, though the specifics remain under wraps. Despite the resolution change, early impressions suggest the screen is exceptionally bright, detailed, and energy-efficient.
As part of Chinese superstition avoidance, OnePlus is skipping the number 14 entirely, jumping straight to the 15. Under the hood, it will be powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, launching in late September, and backed by a massive 7,000 mAh battery. The triple rear camera system is expected to include a 50 MP main shooter alongside a periscope zoom lens for serious telephoto capabilities.
With a radical new design, the most intense black finish ever attempted on a smartphone, and hardware upgrades in key areas, the OnePlus 15 could either be a bold new chapter or a controversial shake-up – depending on how fans take to that daring SuperBlack look.
