NVIDIA RTX 5090 D V2 Officially Launches in China with Memory Downgrade

NVIDIA has officially launched the GeForce RTX 5090 D V2 in mainland China, priced at 16,499 Yuan (~US$2,295) – the same MSRP as the original RTX 5090 D but now with slower memory to comply with US export restrictions.

This new model replaces the older D variant and still serves as a flagship RTX 50-series gaming GPU, though with some key cutbacks.

The RTX 5090 D V2 retains the GB202-240 die with 21,760 CUDA cores, 4th Gen Ray Tracing, and 5th Gen Tensor cores. However, its AI performance drops to 2,375 AI TOPS from the original’s 3,352 AI TOPS. The biggest downgrade comes in memory: reduced from 32 GB GDDR7 (512-bit) to 24 GB GDDR7 (384-bit), lowering bandwidth from 1.79 TB/s to 1.34 TB/s – just under the 1.4 TB/s export limit. Core clocks remain at 2.01 GHz base and 2.41 GHz boost, but there will be no Founders Edition, leaving AIB partners to decide on overclocked models. Power draw stays at 575W.

While the pricing in China matches the original launch, the card is reportedly easier to find at MSRP this time. Interestingly, Hong Kong retailer Faroll listed versions starting at 16,499 HKD (~15,108 Yuan), making them about US$200 cheaper than the mainland price. In fact, compared to the non-restricted RTX 5090 in Hong Kong, the D V2 could be $700–$1,400 less expensive, despite delivering nearly identical gaming performance – though the original models still outperform in AI and productivity workloads.

Given recent political tensions and a new Chinese government advisory discouraging purchases of NVIDIA products, it’s uncertain how the market will respond. Still, for gamers seeking top-tier rasterization at a lower cost, the RTX 5090 D V2 offers compelling value – if you can ignore the trimmed-down specs and potential geopolitical baggage.
