Noctua, known for its premium cooling solutions, is reportedly eyeing the GeForce RTX 5090 for a Noctua Edition, much like its collaboration with ASUS for the RTX 5080 Noctua OC. This would undoubtedly excite enthusiasts looking for a high-end GPU with Noctua’s renowned cooling technology.
However, Noctua’s ambitious plans for the RTX 5090 are hindered by an ongoing supply chain issue – a shortage of GPU chips.
The ASUS GeForce RTX 5080 Noctua OC has already raised the bar in terms of performance and cooling. Priced at a hefty $2300 in China and around 1600 Euros in Europe, this custom edition features a massive heatsink, several heat pipes, and the highly efficient Noctua NF-A12 fans. This results in a quad-slot GPU, which offers cooling performance on par with some of the most premium solutions out there. However, fans who were hoping for a similar treatment for the RTX 5090 will have to wait.
The RTX 5090, powered by the Blackwell GB202 chip, which is also used in high-end workstation GPUs, presents a challenge due to the limited availability of these chips. The demand for these chips is incredibly high, and as such, Noctua is struggling to secure the necessary stock to produce a custom RTX 5090 Noctua Edition. While Noctua remains eager to launch the 5090 edition, they are currently unable to fulfill this vision due to the tight chip supply.
Despite the challenges, Noctua hasn’t abandoned the idea of a 5090 Noctua Edition entirely. The company has expressed interest in releasing such a GPU in the near future, but it all depends on chip availability. Until then, users will have to settle for the RTX 5080 Noctua OC, which remains a premium alternative, albeit at a steep price point that is double the cost of the standard edition in some regions.
If Noctua is able to secure the necessary chips in the future, it’s likely that the RTX 5090 Noctua Edition will come with a price tag of $3000 or even upwards of $3500. So, for now, fans of Noctua’s custom cooling solutions will have to wait and hope that the situation with chip shortages improves.

Shitty gen, 25% price increase. I wonder how much Rubin’s gonna cost, especially if it’s good
