Apple’s budget-friendly iPad line is getting a serious upgrade next year, and it’s shaping up to be more than just a small refresh. According to code references unintentionally revealed by Apple, the upcoming entry-level iPad will feature the same A18 chip found in the iPhone 16 series.
That’s a big leap from the A16 Bionic in the current model, launched just this March.
Why does this matter? The A18 opens the door for Apple Intelligence, Apple’s AI-powered features that are becoming central to its ecosystem. While there’s still some uncertainty about RAM requirements for full AI support, the performance gains alone are notable. If paired with 8GB of RAM, the device could not only handle AI tasks but potentially unlock smoother desktop-class multitasking without lag.
Design-wise, the next iPad is expected to stick closely to its predecessor’s look, focusing instead on the performance boost. The current model starts at $349, and while Apple hasn’t confirmed pricing for the new one, many hope the affordability will remain.
If the rumors hold true, the spring launch could bring one of the most capable entry-level iPads yet – whether you’re after AI features, better multitasking, or just a faster tablet for everyday use.
