Motorola is getting ready for a new shot at the true flagship market, and the rumored Edge 70 Ultra looks set to carry that responsibility. After the Edge 50 Ultra in 2024 and the skipped Edge 60 Ultra, the company now appears to be jumping straight to a new generation, with early leaks already showing off renders and a few key specs.
The leaked images reveal the Motorola Edge 70 Ultra in two subtle color options with a large rectangular camera island and triple rear cameras.
The back panel curves gently into the frame and, together with what looks like a heavily curved front glass, gives the phone a very slim, almost blade like silhouette. Some fans love these ultra thin designs, others complain that Motorola’s high end phones now look more generic than some of its own mid rangers and even resemble designs we have seen before from brands such as Infinix.
On the inside, however, the Edge 70 Ultra sounds every bit like a modern flagship. It is rumored to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, paired with up to 16 GB of RAM and an OLED display with a so called 1.5K resolution that should sit between Full HD+ and QHD+ for sharpness and efficiency. The phone is expected to launch with Android 16 out of the box, and Motorola is clearly leaning into on device AI with a dedicated AI key on the frame that should summon smart features more quickly than any on screen gesture.
Battery life is already a hot topic in the comments. The Edge 50 Ultra shipped with a 4,500 mAh cell, and many potential buyers are loudly asking for something in the 5,500 to 6,000 mAh range this time, while still keeping the brand’s trademark fast charging in the 80 to 120 W window. That would make the Edge 70 Ultra far more competitive, but it also collides with rumors that the phone will be even thinner than the regular Edge 70, raising concerns about how much battery Motorola can realistically fit into such a slim body.
Design details are under the microscope too. Some users wonder if the rounded back means we are in for a fully quad curved display again, something that looks spectacular in renders but is not everyone’s favorite in real life because of accidental touches. Others argue that instead of an AI key they would prefer a classic flashlight or camera shutter button, and there is still a vocal group dreaming about a version with a headphone jack, microSD expansion, plenty of physical buttons and even a charger in the box, ideally at a mid range price and with official availability in markets such as Indonesia.
For now, the Motorola Edge 70 Ultra remains a promising collection of leaks rather than a finished product. With a cutting edge Snapdragon platform, big RAM numbers and a focus on AI, it has the ingredients to be a true Android 16 flagship, but there is also skepticism about design choices, pricing and whether Motorola can really deliver an Ultra experience rather than just an expensive branding exercise. More leaks and, eventually, official details in the coming weeks will show whether this Ultra is worth the name or just another almost there contender.
