Bloober Team, the studio behind Silent Hill 2 Remake and Cronos: The New Dawn, is preparing a chilling return to the Nintendo platform with Layers of Fear: The Final Masterpiece Edition for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
But that’s not all – the Polish developer’s subsidiary, Broken Mirror Games, is stirring curiosity with a mysterious Switch-exclusive horror title codenamed Project M.
The Final Masterpiece Edition promises to be the ultimate version of Bloober’s unsettling art-inspired psychological horror. Labeled as a “complete edition,” it’s expected to merge the original Layers of Fear with its expansions and the upgraded visuals from the 2023 remake Layers of Fears. Though still marked for release in 2025, the year’s end is drawing near, and fans are anxiously awaiting a confirmed launch window. Given the series’ reputation for beautifully rendered madness and its reflection on the tormented minds of artists, expectations for the enhanced Switch 2 port are high. The upgraded hardware could finally give the game the technical polish it has always deserved.
Meanwhile, Broken Mirror Games is expanding Bloober’s horror catalog in new directions. Their adaptation of the cult 1980s comic I Hate This Place – an isometric horror adventure – has been delayed slightly to January 29, 2026. Yet it’s the two secretive projects, codenamed Project M and Project F, that have sparked the most speculation. Project M, reportedly set to arrive next year, is confirmed as a Switch 2 and Switch-exclusive experience. A live-action teaser shown earlier this year offered cryptic glimpses of a puppet-like figure – leading many to believe the “M” stands for “Marionette.” Whether that theory proves true or not, Bloober’s track record with atmospheric tension and psychological dread suggests another unsettling journey is on the horizon.
Project F, by contrast, remains cloaked in mystery, with virtually no details beyond its codename. What we do know is that Bloober Team is simultaneously working on yet another major remake – this time tackling the first Silent Hill. The reveal came through a brief tease during Konami’s Press Start Live showcase in June, where the haunting Silent Hill logo and Akira Yamaoka’s iconic music returned to send chills down spines. No release date has been revealed, but earlier reports from February confirmed that Bloober has renewed its partnership with Konami to reimagine another of the Japanese publisher’s classic psychological horrors.
While critics found 2023’s Layers of Fear “atmospheric but predictable,” fans are hopeful that the upcoming Final Masterpiece Edition will deliver more than just familiar frights – perhaps layering genuine innovation on top of its beautifully twisted canvas. With Switch 2’s next-gen hardware promising better resolution, lighting, and immersion, this could finally be the definitive way to experience Bloober’s nightmarish art gallery.
