iPhone 17 Pro: Why Reverse Wireless Charging Still Seems Out of Reach

The much-discussed iPhone 17 Pro isn’t likely to deliver reverse wireless charging, despite fresh rumors suggesting otherwise.

The speculation began after a Chinese leak claimed Apple’s 2025 flagship would finally introduce the long-requested feature. But looking at the industry landscape, the odds remain slim.

Google’s new Pixel 10 series, which ships with Qi2 wireless charging and magnets – a system almost identical to Apple’s MagSafe – omits reverse wireless charging entirely. According to Google, the magnetic alignment creates a reliable connection but prevents the necessary flexibility for power to be sent back from phone to accessory. This means the same hardware design that makes charging efficient blocks the very possibility of reverse charging.

Could Apple have secretly built a workaround for itself when it opened up MagSafe to the Wireless Power Consortium? Theoretically, yes. But if Cupertino did, it would be keeping that ability exclusive, and there’s little evidence so far that such a hidden option exists. If Apple follows the same physical limitations Google cited, reverse wireless charging will remain absent from iPhones, even the premium Pro line.

Adding to the confusion, scattered reports and YouTube videos claim Pixel 10 handsets already support battery share. However, closer inspection shows many of these clips are actually older Pixel 9 devices or misidentified models. Meanwhile, some tech outlets even list “reverse wireless” in Pixel 10 Pro XL spec sheets, sparking debate over whether the feature is officially active or just marketing haze.

Until Apple unveils the iPhone 17 Pro, fans should temper expectations. Reverse wireless charging sounds great on paper – using your iPhone to top up AirPods or another phone – but hardware physics and cross-company standards make it unlikely to happen in 2025. Unless Apple pulls a hidden ace from its sleeve, iPhone owners may need to keep waiting.
