iOS 26 Returns the C/AC Button to the Calculator App

iOS 26 is just around the corner, and it’s bringing a change that iPhone users have been asking for – the return of a crucial button in the Calculator app. Many people were upset when iOS 18 removed this feature, with some even writing about it in major publications.

But Apple has listened, and in iOS 26, the Calculator app is getting an upgrade that will make it a lot more user-friendly.

Previously, iOS 18 took away the C/AC button in the Calculator app, which frustrated frequent users. However, iOS 26 brings it back, making the app feel more complete. Now, the Calculator includes both a backspace key and the C/AC button. The backspace key, located in the top-left corner, deletes one digit at a time. Right next to it is a button that used to be the +/- key in iOS 18, but it has now been replaced by the familiar C/AC button.

The C button works the same way it always has – pressing it when you’re in the middle of a calculation will remove the entire number you’ve just typed. This is super helpful when you make a mistake, especially with large numbers. When there’s no number typed in, the button changes to AC. Tapping AC will clear all parts of the calculation. It’s a simple but effective improvement.

Meanwhile, the +/- button (now located at the bottom-left of the keypad) has not been eliminated entirely. Apple moved it because it’s not something most people need every day, especially with basic calculations. The function that used to switch between different calculator modes (like basic, scientific, and math notes) has also been relocated to a new toolbar button at the top-right of the screen.

Overall, iOS 26 is shaping up to be a major update, with a brand-new Liquid Glass design and plenty of new features. The OS is currently in beta testing, but a stable release is expected in September. It’s nice to see Apple responding to feedback and making small but impactful tweaks to improve the user experience. For those of us who rely on the Calculator app, this change is a welcome addition.
