Huawei has just lifted the curtain on its latest foldable marvel, the Mate XTs, a tri-fold device that pushes boundaries even under the heavy shadow of international sanctions. While the design remains visually close to last year’s Mate XT, Huawei brings notable refinements where it matters – performance, cameras, and usability. The Mate XTs arrives in bold new purple and elegant white finishes, alongside the classic black and red options, giving buyers a touch of personalization that immediately differentiates this generation.

At the heart of the device lies a 10.2-inch LTPO OLED folding display with 3K resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate.

The 16:11 aspect ratio allows users to comfortably run up to three apps side by side, essentially transforming the phone into a productivity-focused mini workstation. The screen dazzles at up to 1,800 nits peak brightness and retains stylus support – a feature that sets it apart from rivals. Folding once turns the display into a 7.9-inch dual screen setup, while fully folded it shrinks down to 6.4 inches, making it practical for one-handed use. Impressively, Huawei has kept the engineering sleek: just 3.8mm when open, 12.8mm folded, and a weight of 298 grams, ensuring portability doesn’t come at the cost of versatility.

The camera system sees a meaningful update. A new 40MP ultrawide lens at 13mm joins the already capable 50MP main shooter with variable f/1.4–f/4.0 aperture, plus a 12MP periscope telephoto at 125mm. These upgrades aim to solidify Huawei’s foldable not only as a productivity device but also as a creative tool for photography enthusiasts. Many users online already compare this innovation favorably against Samsung and Apple’s relatively incremental upgrades, pointing out that Huawei continues to push new hardware boundaries under restrictions that would have crippled most other firms.

Performance is handled by the Kirin 9020 chipset, replacing last year’s Kirin 9010. It’s the same silicon powering the Pura 80 Pro+ and 80 Ultra, delivering a claimed 36% faster performance. All variants ship with 16GB of RAM, while storage options go up to a staggering 1TB. On the software side, HarmonyOS 5.1 ties the experience together, while a generous 5,600mAh battery fuels the device with 66W wired, 50W wireless, and 7.5W reverse wireless charging.

Pricing positions the Mate XTs firmly in the ultra-premium category: CNY 17,999 ($2,520) for the 16/256GB model, CNY 19,999 ($2,800) for 16/512GB, and CNY 21,999 ($3,080) for the top 16GB/1TB version. Deliveries in China kick off on September 12. While there’s no word yet on an international release, enthusiasts worldwide are already eyeing imports. Some see this as proof that Huawei, despite sanctions, continues to lead in foldable innovation – a reminder that disruptive ideas can outpace limitations.
