Huawei has officially lifted the curtain on its new FreeBuds 7i, a pair of true wireless earbuds that step forward as the direct successor to the FreeBuds 6i.

Alongside the launch of the Mate XTs foldable and the compact MatePad Mini tablet, the 7i earbuds aim to refine Huawei’s audio lineup with smarter design choices, improved tuning, and a more capable noise-cancelling system.

One of the first things users will notice is the redesigned charging case. Moving away from the oval form of the previous generation, the FreeBuds 7i now sport a sleeker round case that feels more modern and pocket-friendly. The earbuds themselves keep the familiar stem-style look with in-ear silicone tips, but Huawei has responded to feedback by adding an extra XS tip size in addition to the usual S, M, and L options, ensuring comfort for a wider range of ear shapes.

On the inside, Huawei has put emphasis on balanced and natural sound reproduction. The 7i feature 11mm quad-magnet dynamic drivers that have been tuned for more accurate mids and clearer treble, while maintaining strong bass presence. They come with Hi-Res Audio certification, Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, and support for a broad set of codecs including SBC, AAC, LDAC, and Huawei’s own L2HC 2.0. Audiophiles and casual listeners alike will also appreciate the inclusion of a 10-band equalizer for custom tuning, multi-point device pairing, and immersive 360-degree spatial audio modes.

Another major upgrade is in the active noise cancellation. The FreeBuds 7i introduce Huawei’s Intelligent Dynamic ANC 4.0, built on a faster response algorithm that can react within 0.5 seconds. The company claims it achieves an average of 28dB noise reduction, which places it in competitive territory against rivals in the same price class. Whether on a noisy commute or in a bustling café, the ANC promises a smoother, more consistent performance.

Battery performance stays similar to last year’s model: each earbud carries a 55.5 mAh cell, while the case packs a 510 mAh battery. This setup delivers up to 8 hours of playback without ANC (or 5 with ANC turned on), and a total of 35 hours with case recharges. It’s not a leap forward in longevity, but still remains solid compared to similarly priced alternatives.

Huawei is offering the FreeBuds 7i in Black, Pink, and White, all with a minimalist glossy finish. Pricing in China has been confirmed at CNY 599 (roughly $84), which positions the earbuds as a value-driven option that blends premium features with affordability. For many buyers, especially in regions where Huawei audio products are gaining traction, the FreeBuds 7i may well strike the sweet spot between performance, design, and price.

While some users argue that competitors like Redmi’s Buds 5 Pro already cover the essentials at a lower cost, Huawei seems confident that its tuning refinements, better ANC, and comfort upgrades give the FreeBuds 7i a meaningful edge.
