Huawei has overtaken Apple to become the world’s leading smartwatch maker in Q2 2025, according to new data from Counterpoint Research.
After more than a year of sluggish sales across the wearable industry, the market finally bounced back with 8% year-over-year growth, driven largely by China’s renewed appetite for smartwatches.
The research shows that Huawei surged 52% in shipments, securing a commanding 21% global share. This remarkable jump not only pushed the company to the top but also underscored the strength of Chinese demand. Xiaomi also posted an impressive 38% shipment increase, while children-focused brand Imoo grew 21% in the same quarter. Together, these brands cemented China as the biggest contributor to the market’s rebound.
Meanwhile, Apple and Samsung slipped by 3% each in global shipments. Apple, however, still holds its dominance in the premium smartwatch category, where features and advanced health tracking remain the key differentiators. Samsung continues to face tough competition from both global and regional players.
Industry analysts believe the market recovery is far from over. Counterpoint forecasts a 7% overall growth in 2025, suggesting that wearables may regain their momentum as consumers seek both style and functionality in their wrist companions.
