Starlight Games, the new studio founded by Wipeout co-creator Nick Burcombe, is stepping onto the VR stage with a project that transforms everyday surroundings into playful arenas.
Their debut title, House of Golf VR, will launch on October 30, 2025, exclusively for Meta Quest 2, 3, and 3S headsets, and it aims to bring the charm of mini-golf into a new dimension through mixed reality.
The recently released gameplay trailer highlights the game’s central idea: your living room, backyard, or any space with room to swing your arms can instantly become a personalized golf course. Players put on the headset, mimic the physical motions of holding a putter, and watch as their homes morph into virtual fairways. This flexibility means you can lay out courses inside the house or step outdoors to merge real-world surroundings with digital mini-golf challenges, blurring the line between play space and reality.
According to Gary Nichols, CEO of Starlight Games, the vision was to create something that celebrates imagination as much as skill. “House of Golf VR is all about playful innovation,” he explained in a press release. “We wanted to design an experience where players can bring their creativity into the game, whether that means setting up a hole between the sofa and the TV stand or escaping into one of our stylized VR landscapes.”
Although this is Starlight Games’ first release, the team is far from a one-project studio. Alongside House of Golf VR, they are developing a futuristic sports title and a sci-fi rogue-lite action game, showcasing their ambition to explore multiple genres within the VR and gaming space. The studio’s blend of creativity and technical heritage has already attracted attention from VR enthusiasts curious to see how Burcombe’s influence will translate into new gameplay experiences.
The timing also places House of Golf VR within an increasingly competitive Meta Quest ecosystem. Earlier this year, an Xbox-branded Meta Quest 3S launched, broadening the platform’s appeal to console gamers, while Warner Bros. confirmed development of a sequel to the acclaimed Batman: Arkham Shadow VR adventure. For fans of virtual reality, 2025 is shaping up to be a pivotal year full of diverse offerings, with House of Golf VR carving out a niche that emphasizes lighthearted fun and inventive use of space.
For players looking for something different from intense shooters or expansive RPGs, House of Golf VR could provide a refreshing change – one where the only requirement is a sense of play and a willingness to turn your home into a course filled with laughter, precision, and imagination.
