Honor has officially launched the Honor X7d 5G, positioning it as the affordable but future-ready sibling to last month’s X7d 4G. While the two share many similarities, the 5G version introduces some notable changes, most importantly the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 chipset with integrated 5G support.

This upgrade ensures smoother connectivity and better longevity compared to budget rivals still relying on older Helio or Unisoc processors.

One of the most significant shifts is in the camera department. Instead of the 108MP main shooter found on the 4G edition, Honor opted for a 50MP f/1.8 primary camera. While the resolution is lower on paper, this could mean better tuning and more consistent everyday photography results, especially for casual users who don’t need oversized files. On the front, however, there’s a small downgrade: the selfie camera drops to 5MP from the previous 8MP, which may disappoint those who rely heavily on video calls or social media snaps.

Beyond these changes, much of the X7d 5G remains familiar. The device still carries a large 6.77-inch TFT LCD with HD+ resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, ideal for scrolling and gaming at this price. Powering it all is a massive 6,500 mAh battery, promising multi-day endurance, paired with 35W wired charging and 7.5W reverse wired charging – useful for topping up other devices. On the software side, the phone runs Android 15 with Honor’s Magic OS 9 on top, but concerns remain about whether long-term update support will match rivals. Honor’s history with limited updates on models like the Magic5 Lite leaves buyers cautious.

The Honor X7d 5G comes in Velvet Black and Desert Gold, priced at MYR 699 (around $166) in Malaysia, with more markets expected soon. While the pricing is competitive, some argue that older mid-range devices or alternatives like the Infinix Note 50x 5G, powered by the stronger Dimensity 7300, might deliver better overall value. Still, for users focused on dependable battery life, smooth display performance, and a balanced chipset, the X7d 5G represents a sensible budget option – especially when compared to phones still shipping with outdated Helio G81 or Unisoc T606 chips.
