After years of silence, Team Cherry has finally lifted the veil on Hollow Knight: Silksong, revealing not only its global launch timing but also a surprisingly modest price tag that has the gaming community buzzing. The long-awaited follow-up to the indie darling will retail for just $19.99 in the U.S., €19.99 in Europe, and ¥2300 in Japan – a price point that feels almost like a throwback in today’s increasingly expensive gaming market.
In a time when major publishers are testing how far they can push player wallets, Team Cherry’s decision feels almost radical.
Consider that Microsoft briefly listed The Outer Worlds 2 for $80 before scaling back under backlash, or that big-name releases like Metal Gear Solid Δ hover around the $70 mark. Against that backdrop, $20 for what has become one of the most anticipated titles in recent memory seems almost unbelievable. Some players even argue that Team Cherry could have asked for more and still sold millions – proof of the hype and goodwill the original Hollow Knight generated.
Beyond the price, the studio also confirmed exactly when players worldwide will be able to dive in. Hollow Knight: Silksong launches September 4, 2025, with a synchronized release across regions: 7am PT, 10am ET, 4pm CEST, and 11pm JST. The announcement came alongside a fresh trailer brimming with new content. Hornet, the agile protagonist, traverses everything from misty swamps and haunted graveyards to a bustling city full of insectoid life. New bosses, quirky NPCs, and even an Ori-like escape sequence flash across the screen, hinting at the variety awaiting fans.
The sequel is set to release across nearly every modern platform: PC, Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series. Xbox players will also find it included day-one on Game Pass, a move that further amplifies its accessibility. Physical editions, according to industry reports, are scheduled to arrive in early 2026, giving collectors something to look forward to.
The news comes as Hollow Knight itself enjoys a resurgence. The original game has now sold over 15 million copies and, eight years after release, is breaking its own player count records on Steam, topping 70,000 concurrent users just last weekend. Clearly, nostalgia and curiosity are fueling renewed interest as anticipation builds for Silksong.
But the key question remains: does the game live up to the hype? Early impressions from Gamescom 2025 suggest so. Attendees were able to try two demo areas, Moss Grotto and Deep Docks. One was designed to ease newcomers in with a gentle challenge, while the other tested veterans with punishing combat and platforming. The consensus so far is that Silksong captures the essence of Hollow Knight while layering in enough fresh mechanics to feel distinct, rewarding, and just as addictive.
For longtime fans, Silksong feels like the reward for years of patience. For newcomers, its low price and Game Pass availability make it one of the most inviting entry points into the metroidvania genre in years. In an industry where prices keep climbing, Team Cherry’s choice has positioned Silksong as not just a sequel, but a statement.
