HMD is gearing up for what it calls a bold step into a new product category with the upcoming HMD Touch 4G, billed as “India’s first-ever hybrid phone.” The company has been teasing the launch across its social channels, building curiosity with the tagline “Better starts here” ahead of its official debut on October 7. While details remain scarce, the device is positioned as a bridge between traditional feature phones and modern smartphones – a segment that has largely been abandoned but still holds nostalgic value for some users in emerging markets.
According to leaked live images shared by well-known tipster @smashx_60, the Touch 4G carries a distinctive design reminiscent of Nokia’s Asha series from more than a decade ago.
It sports a compact 3.2-inch touchscreen, a size unheard of in current smartphone trends, along with a metal unibody finish in eye-catching cyan and understated grey options. On the back, there’s a single camera paired with an LED flash, while the front features a selfie shooter and a touch-sensitive home button below the display – a clear nod to the hybrid concept of mixing tactile and touch controls.
The leaked images also show a power button and a 3.5mm headphone jack mounted on the top edge, as well as dual-SIM support indicated on the homescreen. This suggests HMD is targeting budget-conscious users who still prefer physical buttons and small form factors but want 4G connectivity and modern app access. Whether this device stays an India-exclusive or expands globally remains uncertain, but its very existence highlights HMD’s willingness to experiment in a market dominated by either ultra-cheap feature phones or full-fledged smartphones. In a world of massive screens and spec wars, Touch 4G could be either a nostalgic hit or a head-scratcher for 2025.
