Instead of chasing the next slim glass smartphone, the company is building a purpose made ultra rugged smart feature phone that is designed to survive harsh environments and stay simple enough for mission critical work.

At the center of this push is HMD Secure, the division responsible for delivering hardened devices and management tools to enterprise and public sector customers. Terra M is one of the first products to embody that vision, combining classic feature phone practicality with an enterprise ready operating system and tight integration with secure fleet management services. HMD is explicitly targeting critical infrastructure operators, military personnel, law enforcement officers, first responders, and government or enterprise staff who need a communication device that simply does not quit when dropped in mud, exposed to dust storms, or sprayed with high pressure water.
Durability is a core selling point, and Terra M comes with serious credentials. The handset conforms to the MIL-STD-810H military standard, a broad series of tests that cover shocks, drops, vibration and extreme temperatures. On top of that, the phone carries IP68 and IP69K ingress protection ratings. IP68 means it is fully dust tight and can handle immersion in water, while IP69K indicates resistance to high pressure and high temperature water jets.
