The HMD Fusion 2 is starting to take shape, and if the newly surfaced details are accurate, the Finnish brand seems ready to push its modular smartphone concept further than ever before. The first HMD Fusion, launched last September, was an experimental take on a customizable Android phone with replaceable back panels – or “Outfits,” as HMD called them.

Now, leaks from a reliable X account shed light on what to expect from the next generation, and it’s shaping up to be a solid midrange device with a flair for creativity.

According to the leak, the HMD Fusion 2 will feature Qualcomm’s newly announced Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 chipset, a performance boost over its predecessor, promising smoother multitasking and improved efficiency. The device is rumored to sport a 6.58-inch FullHD+ OLED display running at 120Hz, a significant leap in visual fluidity for gaming and everyday use. Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the 108MP main camera with optical image stabilization, paired with an 8MP ultrawide lens for broader perspectives. Other confirmed details include NFC, Bluetooth 5.3, dual stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and an IP65 water- and dust-resistant rating – a welcome upgrade for those seeking durability without sacrificing design.

HMD is also set to introduce the next generation of its modular ecosystem: Smart Outfits Gen 2. These include a range of attachable modules like a kickstand-equipped Casual Outfit, Wireless Charging Outfit, Rugged Outfit, Gaming Outfit, Camera Grip Outfit, Flashy Outfit, Speaker Outfit, QR/Barcode Scanner Outfit, and even a Smart Projector Outfit. Unfortunately, reports suggest these new modules won’t be compatible with the previous Fusion’s accessories, signaling a complete redesign of the attachment system via the new POGO Pin 2.0 interface.

With pricing still under wraps and no official launch window, the Fusion 2 looks like HMD’s most ambitious attempt yet to blend modular design with practical midrange performance. Whether this gamble pays off may depend on how much support and long-term software commitment the company is willing to provide – something fans have long been asking for.
