Hideo Kojima may not be rushing into Death Stranding 3, but the visionary creator has already mapped out its concept.
Speaking during the Death Stranding 2 World Strand Tour in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Kojima explained that while the story of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach felt like a natural finale to the saga that began in 2019, he still has the seeds of a third entry written down.
“I’m not planning to do that at the moment, because the ending of Death Stranding 2 was my finale of 1 and 2,” he said. “But I already wrote the concept of DS3, so I have that in data. I hope that someone would create it for me.”
Kojima has long been candid about the legacy of his work and what happens after he’s gone. Earlier this year, he revealed he had even prepared a USB drive containing the creative roadmap for Kojima Productions, describing it as “kind of like a will.” His biggest concern, he admitted, is that the studio won’t simply coast on existing IP, but will remain a place of invention and bold ideas.
That legacy-driven mindset has fans split. Some think only Kojima can expand on Death Stranding’s eccentric universe, while others believe the team he built could take his vision further without him. With Death Stranding 2 only just out, many players also argue that the duology feels complete and that forcing a third chapter might dilute its power.
In the meantime, Kojima is far from idle. His partnership with A24 will bring Death Stranding to live-action film, he’s collaborating with Xbox on the experimental horror project OD, and Physint – his so-called “spiritual successor” to Metal Gear – is in development. Whether or not Death Stranding 3 ever materializes, Kojima’s creative pipeline shows no signs of slowing down.

never touched DS1 so not touching 2 either, but writing a ‘will’ for your studio is actually smart af. George Martin shoulda done same lmao
didn’t he pull this ‘the end’ talk after MGS2 too? I lowkey hope he comes back for DS3, hard to see anyone else doing it right
