BAFTA-winning developer Herobeat Studios is back with its next project, Rewilders: The Lost Spring, an ambitious action-roguelite that pushes the studio into bold new territory. Known for the emotional 2022 indie hit Endling – Extinction Is Forever, the team is now stepping into self-publishing with its second-ever title, set to release on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
No release date has yet been announced.
While Rewilders shares thematic DNA with Endling in its ecological narrative, the gameplay marks a dramatic shift. Herobeat describes the project as a fusion of genres: a creature-collection adventure with metroidvania-style exploration, soulslite combat, and roguelite progression. The result is a hybrid experience that blends strategy, survival, and discovery.
Players step into the role of Abi, returning to a devastated homeworld poisoned by a catastrophic event. To fight back against corruption spreading across the planet’s biomes, Abi enlists the help of mystical creatures called Hântu. These companions can be collected, leveled, and nurtured, each offering unique abilities that shape your strategy on every expedition.
The gameplay loop combines action with long-term progression. Runs into corrupted zones test your combat and planning skills, while tending to your floating sky base allows you to plant resources and unlock permanent upgrades. The balance between exploration, combat, and rebuilding echoes classic roguelite design but with Herobeat’s own environmental storytelling woven through.
With its striking mix of genre mechanics and emotional themes, Rewilders: The Lost Spring shows a studio determined to expand beyond its indie roots while still carrying forward the heart that defined its first success. Fans eager for something fresh yet familiar will be watching closely for more news.
