Google has just launched its Pixel 10 lineup, featuring the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the foldable Pixel 10 Pro Fold. The event was filled with AI-driven innovations, and as expected, Google continues to push the envelope with AI-powered features.
But in an unexpected move, the company is already rolling out major updates to one of its recent additions – AI Mode in Search.
Introduced earlier this year, AI Mode in Search was designed to not only provide answers but also help users complete tasks. Starting today, it’s getting a massive upgrade that will make it more personalized and capable of acting as a true digital assistant. The most exciting change? AI Mode is now going global. Initially limited to the US, UK, and India, the feature is now available in over 180 countries. However, English remains the only supported language, but Google assures that more languages are on the way.
The real leap in AI Mode is its ability to take on tasks, also known as ‘agentic’ abilities
. For instance, you can ask Google to help you book a dinner. Just specify the date, time, location, party size, and even cuisine preference. Instead of switching between apps and websites, AI Mode scans platforms like OpenTable, Resy, and Tock to check real-time availability. It then presents a curated list of restaurants that match your request, showing available reservation slots. You pick the option that works, and Google handles the rest.
This is all powered by Google’s Project Mariner, its live web browsing tech, Search partner integrations, the Knowledge Graph, and Google Maps. All of these components work seamlessly to provide a more fluid and personal assistant-like experience.
However, there’s a catch. For now, the reservation feature is only available to those in the US who subscribe to the premium Google AI Ultra plan. This plan also allows AI Mode to remember your past interactions, helping refine future suggestions based on your preferences. Google is starting with dining-related requests, but plans to extend this functionality to services like local bookings and even event tickets.
AI Mode also gives users control over what information they share. You can easily adjust personalization settings directly from your Google Account. And if you want to collaborate with others on a task, there’s an option to share your AI-generated results with a friend. They can join the conversation, ask follow-up questions, and you can revoke their access at any time.
As AI technology rapidly evolves, Google is doubling down on its AI-driven future. While OpenAI’s ChatGPT already features agentic capabilities, Google’s smarter, more personalized AI Mode is a clear sign that the competition is heating up. It’s only a matter of time before OpenAI responds with its own major updates. Stay tuned!
