Alongside the Pixel 10 launch, Google introduced a major leap for Google Photos: conversational AI editing powered by Gemini. Instead of manually tapping through menus, users can now just describe the change they want, either by typing or speaking, and the edit happens instantly.
Think of it as talking to your photo editor – say things like “remove the cars in the background,” “restore this old picture,” or even a casual “make it look better.”
The system is designed to understand natural language without forcing you to pick a tool first. If the first attempt isn’t perfect, you can refine your request with follow-up instructions. Google also added quick suggestions for those unsure what to ask, and the AI can go beyond fixes – changing backgrounds, adding elements, or enhancing entire scenes.
At the same time, Google is rolling out C2PA Content Credentials to Pixel 10’s camera and Google Photos. This standard helps identify whether an image was taken straight from the camera or modified with AI, adding transparency to digital photography. Initially exclusive to Pixel 10, the feature will expand to Android and iOS devices in the coming weeks.
While this is a big step toward making advanced editing effortless, it also stirs privacy debates. Critics point out that conversations with Gemini could be logged for AI training, fueling ongoing concerns about data collection. For some, that convenience isn’t worth the trade-off.
