Enshrouded, the atmospheric survival RPG from German studio Keen Games, is preparing for its biggest transformation yet with the arrival of the Wake of the Water update on November 10. This highly anticipated expansion is more than just a patch – it’s a sweeping reimagining of the world, bringing flowing rivers, shimmering lakes, and deep oceans to life through a new dynamic water system that completely changes how players build, explore, and survive.
For the first time, players will be able to dive beneath the waves, swim through flooded ruins, and fish in tranquil ponds for a variety of aquatic creatures. The new fishing mini-game adds both relaxation and strategy – catching fish isn’t just for fun, it’s now an important source of materials and sustenance.
Keen Games has also introduced watering systems using either a watering can or irrigation setups, enabling players to maintain lush, self-sufficient farms. The addition of terraforming underwater means creative builders can now design bases that extend beneath lakes or sit proudly on floating platforms – a feature many fans have been requesting since launch.
The wildlife roster has expanded as well. Adventurers will encounter Veilwater Snapjaws, crabs scuttling along shorelines, and even capybaras – adorable, semi-aquatic companions that can be tamed and kept at your base. These creatures make the world feel more alive and interactive than ever.
Beyond the watery frontier, Wake of the Water revamps core gameplay systems. The user interface has been reworked for smoother navigation, while item balance and weapon logic have been overhauled across the board. Weapons now finally behave as their names suggest – Ice Coated Daggers inflict chilling frost damage, and weapon durability scales with both rarity and level, rewarding progression without punishing experimentation. New weapons drop from enemies according to their level, with rarities ranging from common to legendary, and players can now craft any previously unlocked lore weapon at any stage of the game. This addition eliminates RNG frustrations and encourages long-term personalization of favorite loadouts, such as the fan-favorite Whailing Blade.
Armor, accessories, and consumables have also been fine-tuned to better fit diverse playstyles. Keen Games addressed several long-standing issues, including the infamous infinite chest loot bug, while rebalancing passive HP, stamina, and mana regeneration to make combat more strategic. Players will now need to rely more on prepared meals and potions instead of passive regen, emphasizing survival planning in true RPG fashion.
On top of gameplay changes, new decorative and quality-of-life features round out the update – you can now label chests and signs, customize bases further, and craft new buff-granting consumables. These touches might seem small, but they elevate the sense of immersion and ownership that defines Enshrouded’s sandbox experience.
With over four million players already exploring its misty lands, Keen Games shows no sign of slowing down. Wake of the Water sets the stage for Enshrouded’s eventual 1.0 launch in 2026 on PC and consoles, proving that the studio remains committed to evolving its survival world into something truly special. Whether you’re diving in for the new aquatic adventures or holding out for the full release, one thing’s certain – Enshrouded just became a lot deeper.
