The long-awaited open beta for Oppo’s ColorOS 16 and OnePlus’ OxygenOS 16 has officially begun, giving users a sneak peek into what Android 16 will look and feel like on their devices. But this isn’t a simple download-and-install affair – both companies are making users prove their eligibility first. To participate, users must pass an official eligibility quiz accessible through Settings > System & Update > Software Update, then tap the three-dot icon and select Beta Program.
Only after successfully completing this process can you apply for the open beta.
Currently, the list of eligible devices includes the OnePlus 13, OnePlus 13R, OnePlus 13s, OnePlus Open, OnePlus 12, OnePlus 12R, Oppo Find X8, and Oppo Find X8 Pro. However, regional limitations may apply – not all users worldwide will see the beta option available. This controlled rollout aims to ensure stability while allowing Oppo and OnePlus to collect valuable feedback from experienced testers before pushing the update to everyone.
As with any beta software, users should proceed with caution. Early versions are notorious for occasional bugs, glitches, and even app crashes. Therefore, it’s best to avoid installing these betas on your primary phone unless you’re prepared to deal with some instability. Both operating systems are expected to bring subtle design refinements, smoother animations, and new personalization tools that build on the already fast, clean, and minimalist approach both brands have pursued in recent years.
Oppo will officially unveil ColorOS 16 on October 15, followed by the OxygenOS 16 reveal a day later, on October 16. On these dates, both companies are expected to share more details about the stable rollout schedule, upcoming device support, and new ecosystem features. For now, enthusiasts who can’t wait to get their hands on the latest Android experience can join the beta – if they pass the quiz, of course.

Wish they included more regions, feels unfair sometimes
