Borderlands 4’s latest update, released on October 23, quietly improves the game’s PC performance by around 10%, giving players a smoother experience across high resolutions like 1440p and 4K. The discovery was made by tech channel MxBenchmarkPC, which compared pre- and post-patch gameplay footage and revealed measurable frame rate gains.
While not officially mentioned in the patch notes, these improvements show Gearbox Software’s ongoing effort to optimize its ambitious looter-shooter for high-end hardware.
Before the patch, even top-tier GPUs such as NVIDIA’s RTX 5080 struggled to maintain a consistent 60 FPS at 4K. Now, benchmarks indicate a solid improvement, with frame rates climbing closer to that golden mark. The patch seems to include subtle CPU and memory management optimizations, although Gearbox hasn’t released technical details. Players have noted shorter loading times, more stable frame pacing, and smoother transitions in combat-heavy areas.
Beyond performance, the October 23 update introduces stability fixes, UI refinements, and improved matchmaking for multiplayer sessions. Gearbox also rebalanced several late-game encounters, making mission flow and enemy scaling feel more natural. Quality-of-life updates – like cleaner menu navigation and faster inventory management – round out the patch, celebrating the first month since the game’s launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The Nintendo Switch 2 port, however, remains on hold. Initially slated for October 2025, the version was indefinitely delayed last month, with pre-orders refunded. Performance concerns are reportedly behind the delay, as the studio aims to ensure a smooth experience on the hybrid console’s hardware. Despite this setback, development continues in the background, suggesting Gearbox isn’t abandoning its cross-platform vision.
Overall, this patch represents a meaningful improvement for PC players and a promising sign that Gearbox is listening to community feedback. With further optimizations expected in future updates, Borderlands 4 is slowly evolving into the polished experience fans have been waiting for.
