Battlefield 6 is set to launch this week, and PlayStation 5 players have just received a rare piece of good news: the full game is reportedly included on the retail disc – no additional downloads required. That means both the campaign and the multiplayer modes can be played straight from the disc, a throwback to an era before massive day-one patches and endless downloads became the norm.
The confirmation comes from early owners who shared details on the official Battlefield subreddit, showing that the PS5 version indeed contains the complete experience.
Multiplayer servers are already live, letting some players jump into matches early without restrictions. It’s a surprising move in 2025’s gaming landscape, where even physical releases often ship as glorified download keys.
By ensuring the full version is available on disc, DICE and EA seem intent on restoring some faith in physical gaming. It also highlights a renewed technical focus: Battlefield 6 has been optimized to perform well across all platforms, from high-end PCs and next-gen consoles to the more modest Xbox Series S. Analysts are predicting strong early performance – with Ampere Analysis estimating 1.7 million pre-orders and forecasting over 5 million units sold in its launch week.
For many long-time fans, this move feels like a nostalgic nod to simpler times when buying a game meant you could just play it. Of course, patches and DLCs will inevitably follow, but at least for launch day, Battlefield 6 feels refreshingly complete – a sign that sometimes, developers do get it right.

People will still complain when the first patch drops next week lmao
Finally! A game that actually works off the disc like it’s 2005 again 😁
