Although rumors about a Battle Royale mode in Battlefield 6 surfaced as early as 2024, it wasn’t until the recent leak that players got a glimpse of how this mode would look in the game.

It was Tom Henderson, a renowned leaker, who initially sparked excitement with the suggestion that a Battle Royale mode would be included in Battlefield 6, alongside a 2025 release date. At the time, it seemed like the perfect addition to the next installment in the series, and many players were hopeful for a new BR experience within the Battlefield universe. However, as more details about the game started to emerge, the dream of having a BR mode available at launch was dashed.

Content creator rivalXfactor was the first to report that the mode would not be available at launch, and EA, in their official announcements, did not mention a BR mode as one of the core features of the game. Despite this, over two months ago, dataminers uncovered mentions of the Battle Royale mode hidden within the game’s files, sparking renewed speculation. More recently, the official Battlefield Labs Twitter account teased that a BR mode would eventually be part of the game’s testing program, leading to the conclusion that the mode would arrive after the game’s release.

The leaked footage now confirms that the Battle Royale mode is indeed being tested, likely with plans for its public release post-launch. This aligns with the theory that the developers wanted to prioritize the core modes and gameplay first, working to fine-tune the Battle Royale experience before fully integrating it into the game. It’s likely that EA aims to appeal to a broader audience, as a free-to-play BR mode is crucial to meeting the ambitious internal target of 100 million players. A strong BR mode could attract players from popular titles like Apex Legends, Call of Duty Warzone, and Fortnite, which dominate the genre.

However, the news of the BR mode coming after the launch of Battlefield 6 may be met with mixed reactions. Long-time fans of the franchise, who loved the beta for its classic Battlefield gameplay, might not be as excited about the shift towards BR. Many feel that Battlefield should focus on its roots, offering a refined version of its core gameplay, rather than trying to cater to a crowd of Fortnite players, Call of Duty fans, and Twitch streamers.

In related news, EA recently confirmed that Battlefield 6 will not include ray tracing at launch. The developers decided to leave out this feature to prioritize performance, focusing on delivering a smooth experience for players at launch. While ray tracing may be a nice addition in the future, it’s clear that the developers are focused on optimizing the game’s performance, especially considering the game’s large-scale battles and the need for stability on various platforms.

Ultimately, the release of the Battle Royale mode may be a pivotal moment for Battlefield 6. If the mode delivers a fresh, engaging experience, it could help EA reach its goal of 100 million players. On the other hand, if it fails to live up to expectations, it could further alienate the core Battlefield fanbase. Only time will tell how well the game’s BR mode will be received.

BF6 feels like a lazy reskin of older ideas with a fresh coat of cosmetics. I started with BFBC2 in 2011 and poured hours into BF3 in 2012, so spare me the nostalgia bait. The gunplay is hollow, the maps are bland, the progression is a grind, and every menu screams shop first. This is a quick cash grab, not a sequel with soul. The franchise lost its spark long ago and this just confirms it
