EA has delivered a major surprise for Battlefield fans just as the Battlefield 6 beta closed its doors.
With the full game not set to arrive until October 10, 2025, the publisher has pushed out Update 9.2 for Battlefield 2042 – and it’s a hefty one.
The headline addition is the return of Iwo Jima, one of the most iconic maps in the franchise’s history. First appearing in Battlefield 1942 and later reimagined in Battlefield V, this Pacific theater battleground is now available in Battlefield 2042. Players storm the beaches, charge into bunkers, and clash in brutal trench combat while an active volcano looms in the distance, giving the map both chaos and spectacle.
Alongside the map, the update packs in fresh hardware. Two new weapons are live: the KFS2000 assault rifle for frontline soldiers and the Lynx sniper rifle for long-range hunters. Vehicle enthusiasts also get their fix with two iconic jets, the A10 Warthog and the SU-25TM Frogfoot, both making their Battlefield 2042 debut.
To keep momentum rolling toward Battlefield 6, EA has introduced a free seasonal pass called the Road to Battlefield Battle Pass. This pass spans 60 tiers of cosmetics inspired by classics like Battlefield 1943 and Bad Company 2, letting longtime fans relive the series’ heritage. On top of that, EA teased that diving into this update will unlock exclusive Battlefield 6 rewards once the new title launches.
Of course, no update arrives without housekeeping: a stack of bug fixes and balance tweaks also ship with 9.2. While the community now has to wait until October to jump back into Battlefield 6, this update gives players something tangible to grind, explore, and master in the meantime.
